What is the purpose of adding extension boxes?

They permit the drives to be mounted higher, put the props back in cleaner water and give more trim
leverage.

IMO the best thing about them is that they seem to make the
boat feel a little longer.

Do they affect the strength of the transom or flex at all?

AND they look cool sittin on the trailer
