Has any one every used extension boxes and #6 drives on a triple application? I have only seen them in 2s and staggered.

The NXT is rated to 800 but anything up to around 1K HP the NXT units work fine. Unless a person is real heavy on the throttle in rough waters and pushing 1200+ would I say move up to a #6.

Cam,

Great thread and pictures.

Have any more pictures of the turbo engines being assembled?

Thanks
Jon

I know its off topic but I saw the new 1350s in this thread. Are they a Mercruiser engine only? Meaning who made them, Ford, Chevy, Dodge? and then Merc hopped them up or are Merc only engines.

They are a Merc only proprietary motor.

Twin water cooled turbo's
Dual overhead cams
etc.

I know this past fall, the guys at Merc Racing installed a pair of the 1350's in Bob Bulls MTI cat. Apparently he likes them above and beyond any other setup he's had before. With the 1350's being a TT setup, its only a matter of time to "crack the code" and safely get them to push 1400+ with adjusted boost levels/fuel/timing programming ect...

I was talking to the driver of a race boat that has been running 1200's and is currently in line to have the 1350's installed. He was telling me that Merc racing folks had actually added hp to their current 1200's and helped them exceed the rated power levels that come "stock". Wouldn't it seem logical that they would do the same for anybody racing this package who doesn't care about warranty?

I wander how long it will be before one of those finds its was into a car, you know someone is giong to do it and its probably going to be a 69 Camaro. I would.

Ultimately its up to the shop or owners that performed the mods to said engine packages. Just with car tuners, when you rebuild or even just swap the blowers and re-tune or replace the computer and something happens the factory of course no longer warranties that work.
Same goes for the 1350 units, lets say a shop re-tunes it pushing it to 1500+ and something happens... it's up to them to determine if it was user error or tuning error.
A rock and a hard place? You bet, but that's the price/risk of "Hot Rodding" factory units.

On another note, the inner beauty of the 1350's is turbos can deliver much smoother power curves since they're not RPM bases like blowers. With fully operational waste gates and bov's you get the same feeling as a big block N/A motor with seamless power throughout the RPM range without the hassles of a centrifugal setup.

Here's a 33' Eliminator gambeling with some #6 drives paired up to some GT Performance 1650's.
