Hey John,
What top end numbers do you see in your 31 cat with that power? Just curious?

The hull is old technology and also has a center pod. It was designed by Tom Stollars in the mid 80's, who was the original owner of Warlock. We started off with 900 hp engines, the boat ran 123 mph. Upgraded the engines to around 1400 hp on the dyno and hit a speed wall at 135 mph. These engines and drives in a new technology boat like a MTI or a Skater would be a drastic difference in speed.

John, thanks for posting. You make a great point most dont think about when upgrading, thinking if they double their power they get double the speed forgetting the other aspects that come into play when shooting for faster speeds. My buddies at Injected Engineering tuned a 32 Skater powered by two Proline built V10's making around 760 each on #6 units. The boat topped out at just under 130mph. Though I have to admit when reading your post I figured the uprade to 500+ more HP per side would net you closer to 145 or so.

Speaking of iLmor V10's and #6's...

Nice! how about the new 32 Spectre...SICK! V-10 Ilmors and Imor Indys. Nearly 150 mph out of a turn key boat for under 300k!

The Viper motors from Proline didnt make 760 each. We never dynoed the motors. We ran 128 with a borrowed set of props 33 Herrings on the rev limiter, with the x dimension 2" too high. Although the set-up I ran was very quick accelerating. I could out accelerate a 28' Cat with two 280's from a 30 roll. We did those videos before lots of lake testing. Proline told me the motors should be close to 700hp. I estimated the motors to be more around 650. Maybe less. I talked to Ilmor and other Viper engine builders and my heads flow better than there 700hp motor. But my cam specs are not anywhere close to theres. I have further done a lot of research and have ordered different cams for the motors and other things. I am confident know that the motors should make 725 hp or better after the cam change. I should have one motor back together in the next couple of weeks and the other soon after. I will be going to Atlanta to see Injected again and tune the motors for the cam change near memorial weekend. If I can get the current props I have now to hook up like they should and turn the motors to 6250, the boat should run 139. That will be natural aspirated. I still am messing around with drive height spacers. I have talked with Peter many times about the propshaft height and slip numbers. Im still not getting the slip down as far as I would like and what Peter said is accomplishable!!! I will keep anybody posted if interested.

I wanted to add into this thread Merc's 1100 package based off the 1350 "big brother" model...
Apparently it's around the same pricing range of a 1075 package but with the added power and control of a TT system over a blower system.

From Mercury racing...
The 1100 package comes standard with a NXT1 SSM sterndrive for 1.15 through 1.4 ratios (for light/fast boats). The M8 drive is optional with similar ratios for boats where the M8′s higher prop shaft location is preferred. The M8 unit is required with bigger gear reductions like a 1.53 or 1.69 ratio (for more richly appointed, but still fast boats).

1100 package

Optional M8

NXT "Speedmaster" unit
