Sounds like you can't go wrong with a full synthetic gear lube regardless of brand.
I also remember hearing claims that synthetic gear lubes would create problems with the Bravo cone clutch.
I guess this thread blows that theory out of the water (so to speak)

If anyone is interested, I contacted my Amsoil tech support and they said that the extreme 75w 90 is better than the marine version. They also have a very extensive comparison test with all the majors, most of them mentioned here. If you pm me I can e-mail it to you. It also includes sworn affidavits from the testing lab.

Looking at the Amsoil ASTMD3233B Falex extreme pressure test data the Amsoil Marine 75w80/90 took 1500 pounds load to fail, the Amsoil Severe 75W90 took 2500 pounds load to fail and the Redline (Redline standard not Shock Proof) took 3250 pounds load to fail. That is likely the big reason why Amsoil says that the Severe is better than the Marine. But how does the Severe compare with the Marine when contaminated by water. Amsoil shows performance comparison of Amsoil Marine versus Brand A and Brand B with and without water contamination but not vs Severe.

Was your Amsoil tech support your local dealer or Amsoil corporate tech line? When I called the Amsoil corporate tech line and asked if the Amsoil Severe 75W90 would tolerate water contamination like the Amsoil Marine he could not/would not confirm that and recommended using the Marine grade in drives.

This has been talked about before, the Marine lube has the additive for cone clutch and water. The severe gear does not, I wish they would make a severe gear made marine specific. I have been using the Marine lube for 6 years and it works well.

There is definatlly a market for "severe gear marine", if enough people ask for it they may develop a new formula.
