I have lost one of the bolts that holds this cap on. It is the 3/8 x 1" bolt that would enter from the rear at the top of the cap. What I am wondering is if this could have allowed water into the drive?
I noticed the bolt missing when I was cleaning the boat at the end of the weekend. I keep the boat at Havasu and so it isn't here where I can inspect it. I am wanting to know whether it can so that if I need to I can bring Gear Lube with me this coming weekend to replace what may have been contaminated if need be.
Thank you.

Yes it is possible that it would leak. I saw one that did and destroyed it.. Best to be on the safe side and drain it and look for water. At least drain a few ounces, to check for water that may have settled to the lower drain plug.

The same thing happened to me two weeks ago. I lost a bolt and busted the upper housing. Upon inspecting the other drive, found it was loose also. Not a good thing at night off the western end of St. Thomas.
