your best option might be to go to a wet sump 6, they are indestructable at your horsepower and you can easily find them for sale in the 15k range

When Konrads were really being touted on here a few years ago for some reason if one broke (for ANY reason) and any discussion of it came up the thread was deleted/poofed. I thought it was kinda strange, numbers were quoted and thrown around, 1000 hp, 1200, 1400 hp capable etc but then when it came up that they DID break then I read alot of back pedaling, wasn't directly from the Konrad folks, just their cheerleaders, I guess they are a good drive to 800 hp, Smitty

I'm an admitted Konrad cheerleader. In fact, I was so impressed with the drives and their entire operation, after the first year of running them, I went to work for the company (presently in my 6th year) as the sales/tech service rep for their high performance market. I can tell you first hand Konrad drives work very well. My old Top Gun went through SIX TRS drives summer '03 and was converted to Konrads Spring '04. The boat presently is pushing 500 hrs on the same set of drives with no signs of unusual wear. Typically, when I sell a pair of drives, I never hear back from the customer.

In response to Smitty's comments, I'd like to point out the fact that after entering the high performance market in 2004, Konrad had gone three full seasons with zero failures in this market. We are very proud of this. The threads in question that were deleted involved failures of units that had been modified by the customers and were well above the ratings for the drives. What I've learned from this is to say no to applications that do not fit well with our product.

There is always someone who can break stuff, we've found that proper set-up, acceptible prop slip levels and applications within our ratings go a long way in determining drive life.

The Konrad performance drives are rated to handle up to 800 hp, I've always been clear on this and have stated countless times, the Konrad is not a replacement for the Speedmaster Six. Although the drive is rated to handle 800 hp, we do have a number of units that are running successfully behind higher hp levels. As for the levels Smitty has mentioned, I'd like to be clear, we are NOT interested in applications of 1000-1400 hp.

In closing, the high performance market is a very small segment of Konrads business. Our main field of expertise is diesel propulsion systems for commercial and military vessels. Given the current economy and state of recreational boating, in recent years, Konrad's promotional efforts have been geared to our main focus.

Hopefully, the state of recreation boating will soon take a turn for the better, I'm missing attending poker runs and hanging with you characters!

Best regards and please feel free to contact me anytime for more info.

They do make a drive that holds the tranny in an extension box so that you do not have to move your motors up. It is called the ACE drive. When you buy the complete kit it does come with trim rams I think.
