Default Noise when turning,u joints look fine

Boat had 2 bad gimble bearings, did the starbord side one week and the port side the next week. When i did the port side i had a hell of a time getting the engine alignment correct. Finally once i did i greased the ujoints since they rolled fine and put it all back together. Now i get a knocking noise when i turn off center, happens in neutral and in gear, only on the port engine. I pulled the drive back off, took the u joints apart and they are fine no galling or rust. I'm replacing them anyway but what else could be making noise ? i'm thinking about putting another gimbal bearing in just in case. Someone mentioned maybe the coupler? The only noise before the repair was a growl from the gimbal, now theres a knocking noise anytime i turn from straight ahead. any thoughts?

If you had a hard time with alignment you just may have a coupler going bad.
