Just put the boat in the water for the first time this season! After three shops trying to align the engine the last one finally figured it out. So I asked them to install the rest of the parts to get the boat done sooner than later. Well, after looking the boat over it looks like something got on the brushed aluminum and stained it!

First, is this problem common and if so how can it be prevented?

Second, what can use to get this staining off?

Don't know what it is, but an SOS pad should take it off.

SOS pad then a coat of Sharkhide protectant. No muss no fuss.

Griff, I don't know what it is either... this portion of the project I did not do. It was there when I picked it up.

I will look into Sharkhide fossil fuel thanks.

Don't be surprised if small rust specs show up afterwards.


Try scotch brite pads

Try 400 grit sandpaper. Wet. Works for me.

Wet sand & buff, they will look great & may give you a little more speed.

I use scotch pads on mine and they look new with out a lot of work.

I do my whole aluminum trailer with sos or brillo pads. I do the lowers on my NXT's with sos and then a coat of sharkhide. Its stays good for 2 seasons. Never any rust specs. That would make sense, but has never happened.

Another person suggested brake cleaner on a rag.

What cleaning solvents would work the best with the scotch pads? I am thinking 100% Simple Green?
