The last part I sent to Flamespray was for a Paragon boat trans output flange. The seal had put a groove in it. I think it was about $100 to spray.
A problem I see with speedi-sleeves is that sometimes they over expand the seal. Where they work they're the cat's meow.

Speedi-sleeves is this a company or a part? Who makes a sleeve to repair these shafts.

Speedi-sleeve is what you call the part. NAPA can get them. You order them by size, ie if the shaft is 1.875 the sleeve would be for shaft sizes 1.870-1.879. Not exact numbers but along those lines. They have short ones and tall ones too. If you have to trim one it gets delicate. Installing can be delicate too if it's on the tight side. Make sure it goes on straight. Use sleeve retainer loc-tite too.
Go with the Flame spray.

Right now I am planning on rechromimg them. I have found a local company to grind them, chrome them and then grind and polish them. Waiting for a price but ithinkthis my first choice rather than flame spray. But who knows lets see what the rechrome price is. I will let you know how it works out. Thanks for your imput

So I have sent them to a grinding outfit. They are grinding them by 0015 and then rechroming them to .0015 and polishing them. They will never wear again and for less than $1000.00 fr both shafts. Money well spent I think.

What is the pro/con of chrome vs ceramic?

I have no idea what the shaft looks like but $1K seems >$600 more than what I'd think Flamespray would cost. "think"

Wasnt able to find out alot about Flame Spray. Sounded good but again did'nt seem to get any feed back on the longevity of the process. Went back to stock except now have a much greater depth of industrial chrome. Still better than$4000.00 for new ones and the splines on the shaft were still in excellent shape so it made sense to repair rather than replace.

Interesting. I had a crankshaft journal repaired in like manner. Keep it spayed up when out of the water & I think you have come up with a solution. Good info.
