Default Imco shorty question

I have a 89 Baja 235 force and the x dim is some where around 7.5" (going off memory). Would I gain speed/performance going with a 2-3" shorty even though it is an older boat? Power as of now is estimated at 400-425hp, but on the rise (hopefully) as I'm planning for some new parts.

Thanks in advance.

Mabe, maybe not, some have had success with going with them some have not. I personally did this on my Donzi 18 and picked up 1-2 mph was all, however the handeling improved, I've since added power and haven't tried the stock lower against the -2 with the added power, only way to know is try one and find out. I spent a lot of time prop testing afterwards to get both handeling and slight mph increase.
