Default shift cable?

Hello everyone, I posted this in the Chris craft section but didn't get anything so thought I'd throw it up here too. I have an 88 Chris craft scorpion 210 with the 260 HP mid engine 350 and alpha 1 out drive. Last summer the shift cable got hooked by a cooler and now when you go past 3/4 throttle it goes I to neutral. Once you pull it back it goes back in gear. Could this just be a cable issue or did something else go wrong? I also have a crack in the impeller hose near the transom and the trim switches do not work so my plan was to just replace/service everything at once (gimble bearing, trim switches, bellows, shift cable, hose, etc.) But wanted to be sure a cable will fix the issue at hand first. Also I have never done this before so any advice would be greatly appreciated and also are there any special tools needed to do this job. Btw I am an automotive master tech and have many tools and a shop but work on things with wheels so this is a bit different than what I'm used to. Thanks again for any help.

yes check the adjustment or the lever that the cables go to somewhere somethings out of sync. sometime they can be tricky to adjust.
