You can add a bigger trans fluid cooler and change fluid often. Heat kills any kind of oil, so keeping it cool helps a lot.

In order to make them last longer I am pretty sure that they will have to be taken out ,torn down and rebuilt with stronger parts.clutch disks are card board if i remember correctly and needs to be replaced with bronze ----- been a long time can't remember if any other parts need replaced: In any event you are probably looking at some hefty bucks to rebuild let alone the labor...... Smitty makes a good point about the fluid !!Good luck.....

Can I use an oil cooler like already mounted on the rear of the motor or am I better using and air to air cooler with a small fan? I have tons of house power (6 blue top optimas) and alts are 195a each...so drain is not a concern....just want it to last as long as possible.

As far as discs, I can swap that on my own just before I drop the Merlins in....but pump and converter should hold up? I have no issue matching r's on re-entry....

If it were me ,I would not use that set up with the fans. Never herd of anybody using fans in a marine application ...... I don't think it would work very well ---You need seperate coolers for each transmission and water is the only way to go ..If I remember correctly the old TRS 280 trasmissions had a built-in cooler and had to be winterized seperate from everything else in the engine comp. Just an idea !!
As far as rebuilding the trannies with new clutches -I dont think I wouuld tackle that job myself------If you screw something up you have a major problem on your hands.Call these guys:Kalamazoo Marine Gear - 2706 Portage Dr. Kalamazoo Mich 49001 Phone 616 -345-0629 Ask for Mark Gernsback---Dont know ,he might be retired now but if they are still there any of the guys can help. They remanufacture everything when it come to BW transmissions... Good luck again

Only use water cooled coolers !!!!! Lake water is only used one pass thru and an endless supply of it. The stock coolers are not enough. Use the stock one and plumb in an additional cooler after the stock one.

Sorry....meant air to water with fans.....like an after cooler...

I just remembered where I got my coolers from....Sen-dure. They have any size you could want.
