The cryo will help (kind of). Unless you drop a tooth. Change the lube often. This isnt an oil thread thread but I never had luck with Amsoil Severe Gear or Royal Purple. I had less failures on Merc Hi Perf. Now, I am running NEO.

Good threads:

In the throttle meaning depending how You hole shot, accelerate, throttle in the rough water, ect. Sorry for not going into detail, but I was only agreeing with the posts above Mine.

just keep spare parts, learn to build the drives its easier than you think, had stock bravos on a 31 warlock cat, with blown 557s 850hp would brake the floor out of forward gear once a year, and I drove it like I stole it. not saying it wont break just saying keep parts readily available, ive broken drives at 2.00 in the afternoon and been back on the water in 2hrs.

that is roughly what i run in my 27'...never had any problem with the bravo for 2 years (billet top cap),....switched to XR last year...so far,so good

I strongly recommend the BRAVO SHOPS NEO GEAR oil along with there Drive Temperature Gauges. Heat is what kills bravo's, with a gauge at the drive you can keep an eye whats going on back there while you are running hard. There is a gauge for every single thing else on these boats, it only makes sense to have one where the abuse is taken.

I do it too, with a little more than 650hp, but my boat weighs probably half what a 382 formula does.. Boat weight and throttle will determine their life. Be smart and they'll live awhile..

I sold my 382 a couple years ago but it had 540/630hp (fully dressed/dyno numbers).......even with XR's I did eventually break them. But I also made 700ft/lbs (also measured fully dressed) which couldn't have helped matters. Boat ran 85-87 depending on props. Stay away from 5 blades, they cruised great but I think that is what grenaded the XR's.

I'm glad u started this thread cuz I'm in the middle of finishing a 496 stroker motor that will have any where's from 550 to 650 hp that I was debating on putting my bravo 1 behind. My budget this year ran out so it will have to do. I

I have a 24 foot viper that weighs 4500 lbs so I bought a drive shower for it to help out this year. And next year ill sell the boat or put a xr on her or buy something different who know ill find out this summer if I want to keep the boat.

Yeah the weight of that 382 is going to be what's toughest on the B1's. I get away with it just because it's a 5500 lb boat with twins. The heavier boats are harder on them on takeoff, but don't catch air as easily as a light cat, so the high speed throttling isn't so much of an issue.. Take off very carefully and keep her in the water, and like some other guys said, learn to fix them yourself. Keep extra gears, a prop shaft or two and a spare set of props laying around. Also billet caps with drive showers are a must!

It's asking a lot out of those drives on a boat that heavy. But drive it reasonable and avoid stabbing the throttles.
When you decide you want piece of mind toss on a set Bmax's and let Err rip.

x3 on the 10,500 weight, I have a buddy running 702hp on a 1989 280 Baja on bravo's for six years with no problems. HP & weight are what kills it.
