Imco SCX new lower?
Ive heard theres a new design lower for the SCX which has more of a bullet point on the nose. Anyone know how it works?? Is it as fast as SC ?

These are my new ones. Not sure how different they are and they have NOT been wet yet - Damnit man

Looks great! Thanks for sharing.
Last I hear IMCO tested and the lower is only good for cosmetic. It is NOT faster then the blunt nose SCX lower. The gears are still larger creating a wider lower with more drag. Still worth it over breaking drives! |
and what is the verdict

No B/S here. My boat I lost maybe 2mph. I'm NA 500efi at 7500 msl . went from 55mph to 53 mph. GPS. Running the same prop. So if they are loosing that much mph sounds suspicious. Post 7 of that thread sounds like the drive they have didn't come direct from IMCO and maybe the ratio is off. I don't know. I'm just saying at my speeds it was barely noticeable. And I will take that loss for no broken drive.

Im wondering if a Rem polish on the gear might bring back some of the loss.

Right at 750 hp. I have Stellings and I installed 1" spacer to lower a little.
I might have lost 2 to 3 but Top End is Not my pursuit. ALL summer NO issues IS. Totally satisfied. Well except for the Hinge pins screws--- Note to Self- Check tq regularly!!!!. |

This is very true... I am experiencing this right now with my boat. I repowered +300 hp and am running just a little faster than before with the SC. Frustrating for sure.

Have you tried any 5 blade? Bravo 1 4 blade isnt a good surfacing prop.
|
i believe an extension box is in order , higher drive cleaner water & probably a maximus prop .
|
Man sucks bad! So sorry to hear of this again...........

http://www.speedboat.com/wp-content/...9.38.00-PM.png. I believe this is the new case with the piece added to the front of skeg.
|
Im kind of confused on the new lowers. Did IMCO change them again? I just saw a post on Teagues fb page that said they were the first ones to get them and the post was March 24th.
|
Not sure if its changed or something they add if required by set up.Also that is the SCX4 gear case.
|
Yes anyone know if they are new/changed? If so is this because of huge speed lose in big hp single drive boats? After all I thought that was what the lowers where targeting....
|
Will let you know having mine done now was happy with it to start but looking for a little more, this is a brand new set up for me.
|
About a year ago they offered a standard SCX with a blunt nose lower or a pointed lower called the #13.
Now it looks like there is a new lower for the SCX-4 where the skeg angles up towards the nosecone more. I also think they have a version with a longer skeg which would help handling when the drive is mounted higher. Very confusing though All you need to remember Pete is you need a full SCX UPPER AND SCX LOWER to gain the reliability your looking for! |
Took mine to 100mph today with more to go,very happy so far. Also very happy with IMCO and the way they worked with me. I am running the SCX4 with 5 blade merc clever.

Did you have the old style "sharp nose", or the "blunt nose" and switch to the new style where the skeg runs up to the tip of the bullet? Did you notice a difference? Where is your propshaft in relation to the bottom? Even, below, above? Thanks, Rob |

I was wondering if you tried the old style SCX before this newer design, and had comparisons. I have the sharp nose style and am contemplating going with this style if it truly performs better.

In talking with imco the extended skeg is there to cut the water and to help keep the stern from lifting too much. Note it only has a small hole in the nose cone for water pick up. Not designed to cool the engines so plan on external water pick ups
