Default c72 transmissions?s

I have a older fountain 10meter.it has trs/borg warrner trasmissions my question.why does the port side trans still turn the prop on the drive even when in the rite position?i noticed when I had the motors where out that it looks like the port side trans had been into at one time.....[you can see where atv sealent had been used on the front cover]..also the trans is harder to turn compared to the starboard side.i was told that the trans was shimed too tight when rebuilt.would this account for the port motor using more gas and about 300 rpm less than the starboard side.the port uses about 8-12 gal more than the starboard side.or is the trans getting ready to take a dump?thanks all
