Bravo 1 lower, gears backlash setup

Setting up a B1 lower. The gears backlash is a little out of specs. should be .012-.015 using the 'flag'. I'm getting .018. Is there any guidelines as to how much shim to add to result in xxx amount change of backlash amount? Trying to avoid the repetitive front race removal and reshimming for a trail and error guessing game risking messing up the race bore.

It is typically one for one. Add .004"-.005" to the front bearing and it will tighten it up. Make sure the pinion gear is at the proper depth and the wobble in the pinion gear is less than .0005".

Stamped out a .003 and a .005 shim today. Had no .004 shim stock on hand. Going to try the .005
2 nd ? The driveshaft rolling preload spec is 3-5 in lbs. I'm at 2 using the initial setup ......Depth, plus .001 for some preload. I'm up to depth plus .005 shim to get 3 in lbs. I'm kind of concerned that additional shim height is too much physical preload. Do you just add shims till you get the target 3-5 and ignore how much it takes to get there? The torque to turn is probably. 10 in lbs to start but once the shaft turns the torque drops to 3

Bearings are being reused. When new, rolling torque was correct with the .001 preload. Thus my concern of going more. (Resealing the infamous leaking puck, thus the tear down.) So you are suggesting to keep shimmed as was disassembled. There is no new/used specs for this particular setting. Makes sense now to leave as is.
