parts availability. i don't think it is that big an issue. the parts don't get scrapped...the hulls do. every time somebody buys a TRS boat, somebody else just sold it. net gain in boats potentially needing these parts is 0. you don't hear of very many people closing up their bravo hole in the transom and cutting it out for SSM or TRS. the real advantage of bravo over these other drives is the cockpit of the boat is 14 inches longer. and that matters more to most boaters than 90 to 130 mph does.

I have yet to see a manufacturer extend the cockpit of a model because it's a bravo boat. I must not understand what you're saying,

Most boats that have/had SSM or TRS, cigs, Fountains, apaches, etc, were built for them. Even when bravo equipped they kept the original layout . now, certain boats, like Baja's or small runabouts that debuted after the bravo was introduced , yes , can have bigger cockpits. That was the main reason for a shiftable outdrive. More room

So, what about the NXT drive? No love for it?

For the money, might as well go to 6's I'd think.

roughly 5 13/16" shorter Jamie 4s and 5s vs 3 and 3a

transmissions are the best way to go.. reliable, smooth shifting and they buffer the torque from the engine somewhat... my 1450s work really well

#1 Arneson
#2 M8
#3 SSM 6 dry sump
#4 SSM 6 wet sump
#5 SSM 3A/5
#6 SSM 4
#7 SSM 3
#8 Konrad
#9 Kaama
#10 Bravo XR Sportmaster
#11 TRS/SSM II
#12 Standard Bravo
#13 Alpha

Just my opinion!

Mild, What is the difference between a SSM 3 and 3A. I know the propshaft diameter is bigger on the 3a. I think the prop shaft on the 3 is 1 1/4.
Also from what I know the Kamma is rated for 600 HP and doesnt have the problems of a typical outdrive with gears so wouldnt that still put it above a SSM 3
