Default Bravo III 2.0 Upper and Bravo I 1.5 Upper the same?

I'm reading conflicting answers on whether a Bravo III 2.0 upper unit and a Bravo I 1.5 upper unit are the same. Can anyone clear up the confusion?

I have a Bravo III 2.0 upper on my boat. If I bolt up a Bravo I 1.50 lower unit to it, would it be identical to a complete Bravo I 1.50?

Yes both 27/32 upper gear set, make sure your lower is an oiler.

I appreciate the response. How do you determine if the lower is an oiler or not?

When you look at the mating surface there will be 2 rubber "O" rings 1 about 2" dia. the other about 1/4" dia, a non-oiler will only have the larger O-ring.

Gotcha. Sounds like the non-oilers were the older lowers. Yes, I'm anal so I'll have to replace the decals to Bravo Is or it will drive me nuts. Thanks for the help.

B 3 's came in different ratios accomplished by upper gears, should be stamped in side of case on decal. Difference between 1.36 and 1.5 is solely in upper 1.36 having 29/27 and 1.5 having 32/27 both lowers have 15/19 count gears.
Here is the chart I use click around and you can reference all Merc drives/
Hope this helps
