would it be possible to shorten a trs lower to benefit the x dimension? I get that you wouldn't gain any durability but at least performance would be improved.

I cant see how the effort could be justified. TRS lowers are weaker and slower than bravos. AND they are hard to find without damage-rot. Bravos still avail new. AND OP has to re-design this job to do it to the TRS. He already has had success with the bravo. it looks like somewhat skilled labor and rather a lot of it. if you or anybody is gonna pay him to build you a shortie for your TRS, you cant justify not buying a bravo lower to have him start with.

Yes I can shorten a pair of trs lowers but like dereknkathy said I would have to completely retool to do so.

reversing the rotation. yes, you can reverse the engine rotation and turn the borg pump plate to run with it. can a TRS upper run backwards? and the bearing carrier side gear is the reason the right trs lower is the weak link. they made gen 2 alphas like that basically running them in reverse with reverse shimmed up a little better. they never put over 310 hp in front of them them though. there is a whole lot of twin small block gen 1 alpha boats out there. running both props the same way doesn't feel noticeably different. at least not at the speeds most older twin TRS boats are used to seeing. I don't see how two props turning the same way would be a real deal breaker for most peple.

Nice

Im almost ready to put my 23 in ,im 3 years behind u,wen u had it without the had steering ,is that why. It was poor handling,or was it the trs. Gearcase, did the nosecone help the trs? Thanks

SlowRyd 06-27-2017 09:18 PM

The gearcase took care of the ill handling issues. The rams made it more stable in the rough water. I wouldn't run a nose cone on a trs lower because of such a low prop shaft depth

I gotta ask, why, cut the water with a sharp tool not a dull one, thanks

best way to explain. Did you ever see a tie down strap start flapping in the wind. Now think about an egg in the wind. It won't ever flap. Air and water are very similar one is just thicker.

that's a good explanation 6.
made me think of this, about 30 seconds

the trs is already a long gear case as it is and adding a nose cone to a lower that is that deep in the water only creates more drag.

As usual I'm late to this party but want to commend SlowRyd sharing a great display of American ingenuity and craftsmanship- cool stuff!
