R, MR, 'n Alpha 1 are flat topped drives,.... The MC-1 also has a rounded aft end anti-cavitation plate, where the later drives are more squareish,.... |
I see. That Makes sense ... and Since the Boat is an 80 Model... I could safely assume the Drives are 79-81 and (parts) should interchange with most any unit out there...correct?

Another thing to keep in mind if you are looking at used drives is gear ratio, there seems to be a ton of 1.94:1(4cyl) mc-1 out there, not many 1.5:1. I have a few 1:94 laying around if you need cases.

Though, many of the parts, 'n pieces followed the entire line up,... The lower unit input shaft splines changed in the early/ mid-'70s,.... It will swap outdrive for outdrive, but ya can't mix, 'n match uppers with lowers,..... You can swap on a newer lower unit than yer's, up to the 1990 units, as in '91, the Gen.II came about, 'n swapability ended,.... There's some pictures down lower on this page to help,.... I did pick up this Alpha One ...no clue as to the ratio (to be certain)
