You stated that mine is an MC-1. not to be stupid (but I am truly ignorant as this is a new area to me) how do you know...better yet How would I know??
what are the earmarks?
Ayuh,... The top ring/ liftin' eye went away with the MC-1s,.....

R, MR, 'n Alpha 1 are flat topped drives,....

The MC-1 also has a rounded aft end anti-cavitation plate, where the later drives are more squareish,....

I see. That Makes sense ... and Since the Boat is an 80 Model... I could safely assume the Drives are 79-81 and (parts) should interchange with most any unit out there...correct?

("'bout the mid/ late '70s, on, up to '91, All of 'em will interchange, either by the unit, ei; uppers interchange, or lowers interchange, or complete drives interchange, again up to '91, 'n the A1, Gen.IIs,.... ")

do you know the spline count variances?
13, etc...

also .. should I find a solid case and the splines not match.. can the guts from one be swapped to the other without issue?

Another thing to keep in mind if you are looking at used drives is gear ratio, there seems to be a ton of 1.94:1(4cyl) mc-1 out there, not many 1.5:1. I have a few 1:94 laying around if you need cases.

Ayuh,..... Complete outdrives, will interchange from the late-'60s, through '90,....

The changes over the years were All internal, not all internals will swap to older, or newer cases,.....
Though, many of the parts, 'n pieces followed the entire line up,...

The lower unit input shaft splines changed in the early/ mid-'70s,....
It will swap outdrive for outdrive, but ya can't mix, 'n match uppers with lowers,.....

You can swap on a newer lower unit than yer's, up to the 1990 units, as in '91, the Gen.II came about, 'n swapability ended,....

There's some pictures down lower on this page to help,....
Lotsa Great info in there besides,...

I did pick up this Alpha One ...no clue as to the ratio (to be certain)
Owner said it was an 1989 small block V-8 Ratio: 1:84 , but I do not have proof
