I'v had many mercruiser powered boats but have zero knowledge of the volvo sx drive. i could use some help if you don't mind. I'm looking at a 2000 crownline 202 BR with a volvo 4.3 I'm told it needs repowered because the engine wiring harness needs replaced and is no longer available . i have a complete mercruiser alpha gen2 with a built 383 approx 400hp setup i pulled from my Baja islander with a rotten transom .my original plan was to convert the 202BR to mercruiser. however after reading some posts I'm wondering if i could or should leave the volvo sx drive in and fit my 383 to it? how much HP will the volvo sx handle and will the gear ratio be correct or close enough for the motor i have?

The sx drive is far superior to the alpha, cone clutch and very bravo like IMO. I say leave the drive as-is. The 4.3 has a 1.7? Ratio I think. Typically the sx would be 1.51:1 for SBC but you could probably get a prop to make it work.

the complete Volvo transom assembly and the SX drive is better than Mercruiser alpha and bravo set ups. The Volvo Penta steering actuator can have its own problems from leaking to not operating correctly.
