My upper drive seized due to oil starvation (due to the oil reservoir being plugged..)
The lower and upper have been taken apart and inspected. The lower is fine, but the upper not.
Found a Bravo one X upper, but the mechanic says it wont fit. and to make it work I would have to change the drive coupler, (remove the engine, not something I want to do)
The lower is a 1990, and I have read about the oil passage don't match up with newer uppers such as the XR. But can't find anything about the X?
Should I just exchange the X for the standard, or is there a way of getting the X to work without engine removal.
(FYI the gimbal was upgraded to an HP gimbal a few years ago, and that worked fine with the older original Bravo one)

First off, maybe find a different "mechanic"....
There is absolutely NO difference in drive couplers..
The only difference may be your gimbal bearing, but if you have an HP transom assembly, there is a good chance you have the proper bearing..
If you don't, it is easily changed when you remove the drive...

Thanks for all the input, the drive fit in my HP Gimbal with no issues at all. And I used my newer "back up" lower unit with the oil feed, so that matched up perfect.
Have not run it yet, but started it, put it in gear and works.
Hopefully I won't need a nosecone like my old one (the new one is factory long bullet with low water pickup, but not the sport unit)
