Default Blown bravo one drive?

I was out on my boat and all of while cruising about 3500 rpms and all of a sudden the motor revved way up no forward or reverse in water when I throttle it up to about 1500 2k rpms I hear a ratcheting noise. On trailer now I don't hear noise. No forward only reverse I suppose because there is no load. Tight spot while spinning prop. When motor is not running I cannot shift into forward gear. I was thinking I have to pull upper unit apart but figured I'd throw this call for help out first for some possible guidance. Thanks for any feedback anyone can help with.

Drain gear lube, pull top cap and back cap is all you need to do to inspect it.
