Unhappy Scarab Panther NO Reverse/BW-TRS

Hello,

I am little new to the set up I have, just bought a 30' Scarab Panther with what appears to be stock carb 454's. Borg Warner VD's. and TRS Drives. Got it in the water, and motors ran great, everything was fine smooth shifting, no clunking or noises compared to a Bravo etc. Ran it for max 1.5-2 hours on a few different rides, mainly cruised around 25-30, only romped it for about 20 seconds. Went to pick up some friends at the dock, cut boat off for a few minutes and no reverse. We pulled into dock, and when trying to back out had nothing on either engine. Really didn't use much reverse all weekend, no hard shifts... I can verify linkage it moving and even tried to move manually thinking maybe it wasn't engaging. Checked fluids, and all seem ok, engine temps fine, no actually tranny gauges.

Any ideas beyond needing a rebuild hopefully, seems weird they both went out at the same time with no real reason.

Any other tips on the Panther setups would be helpful! Thanks.

Smell trans fluid for "burnt smell" Make sure shift cables are correct at control box. Should both pull to go in fwd & push for reverse. Engines LH & trans turn LH in fwd. Additionally make sure shift lever on port side of trans moves fwd for fwd & has full engagement F & R (hole drilled in case & lever to check engagement). TRS drives are LH or RH Not bi-directional Bravos, & are stamped on end of propshafts. I have seen shift cables hooked up backwards and wrong rotation props on drives resulting in trans is actually in reverse while boat moves forward. The boat will run about a mile on plane before it smokes the reverse clutches-only 2 plates vs 7 or more for forward depending on trans. Hope this helps.
