Default How much can be put to an xr

Hello All!!!

just looking for realistic rough idea breaking point. I do not want to get into everyone's "well if you bring it up easy and or keep the drive in the water" bla bla bla. I am a pleasure boater and i do not care to beat on my boat or myself. What is the good bad and ugly growing pains to putting power to an xr. I have a single 29 fountain, im having an xr rebuilt but dont want to thow it on if its going to scatter it. would rather sell it and go to an SCX if I am a ways from it holding together.

Thanks

Matt

Go IMCO unless you like rebuilding drives...that's my opinion...no matter how you drive it I don't think it will live with that power/torque...others may chime in but that's my opinion

Weakest link is the soft gears, they break down under mild power in the 150-180 hour range. Like above just get a IMCO now.

If your running that kind of power upgrade the drive to IMCO, no way around it and there is no magic bullet.

I remember the HP number being 600 to 650 max, depending on the boat.

I broke a couple at around 650hp.......you don't want to hear the rest of the details even though that matters

At that HP level it may break just bolting it up to the bell housing.

I broke mine with 770 hp, and by no means did I ever beat on it.
