I have two 10-17 velvet drives. Looking to beef them up. In high school I rebuilt 7 turbo 400 transmissions. My hunch is these Borg velvet drives would be pretty easy to rebuild compared with a turbo 400 transmission. Any thoughts? The rebuild kit is about $200. What is the weak link in these drives? I’ve read adding more clutch plates helps.
who is best for such a rebuild?
im told 10-18 drives are stronger? Are the 10-18s a direct replacement. TRS outdrives on my 1986 30 foot twin checkmate
your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I can’t figure out why the pump housing bolts would not leak? Any thoughts? One rubber seal goes around the outside edge. The bolts don’t have gaskets on the heads. Seems like the pressured hydraulic fluid would go to the bolt, up the shaft & out the head? Only reason it might not is too machined surfaces mating perfectly! Any thoughts?
