Did it ruin the case?

I don't know as the x gears are stronger but less prone to pitting.

I'm not sure but it looked like total carnage inside so I replaced it with an XR upper.

bravo gears are a crap shoot...x or xr

we put 350 hours on xr’s with no issues. we’ve also had good luck with regular bravos...but we aren’t putting huge power thru them.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again...anything above 550 is pushing it.

You must not have broken the case then.... when an XR driven gear sheds a tooth, and that tooth tries to get back in line to meet up with the pinion, the sound it makes isn’t something that one forgets

I’ve heard of occasional breakage of helical gear upper gears , but not to the extent it ruins the case, so you’re just in to it for a gear set and bearings, not the whole upper when an XR looses a tooth.

The XR’s might be stronger, but between the pitting and the tooth breakage it’s hard to claim they’re superior to the helical gears

When I could get a brand new swept back upper for $3,500 I wasn't about to waste any money or time on the old "X". I haven't inspected the gears but the magnet has been clean for quite a few years now. I'm running an Imco -2" shorty lower.

I'm putting 640 HP through an Imco SC -2 on a Saber 28 with Twins, also running Drive Guardians. We will see how it holds up. Ran two seasons with a Bravo with XR Gears I season with the Drive Guardian. no Problem just ran across a great deal on the SC's.
