Default Need help on picking a drive. Newbie here!

I recently was given a 98 advantage victory 27 from my grandfather and was curious as to what drive and engines to go with? Not sure if I should go to a bravo 1 or a bravo xr unit. I would like to build a 650-700ish big block Chevy just not sure where to start. Also boat doesn’t have engine or drive as it was stolen years ago from my grandfathers shop.
Thanks
Richard

Imco SCX and bravo lower. Don't waste your money on XR junk if you are going to be above 600 hp.

While I would tend to agree with Endeavor, on this particular hull an XR works fine. A had a 27 Victory for a few years and then bought a 28 Victory which has the same bottom and ran it for a few years. These hulls get on plane very easily, it takes about 2 boat lengths at 20% throttle and they have very high prop slip numbers in the 20%+ range. The combination of these two things is much easier on drives that other hulls. In the 10 years of owning the 2 Advantages, I only broke 1 XR drive and that was at 760hp on my 28 AFTER I added a drive spacer trying to get the slip #s down

I’d probably keep HP 500-600 range and a full XR or a modded X will work fine for years.
