Default rubber and metal behind prop

I have what looks like a rubber gasket and a metal piece behind the prop in the housing. Also looks like a small piece of a wooden shim that is further in. Any help on what it is and if I should remove it or something needs replaced? Its a bravo 1 outdrive.

Thanks for the reply. The props are off and it in the space around the prop shaft. I'm a new member, so as soon as it lets me, I'll post a pic.

Welcome to OSO!

Eight more post in this thread and you can post pictures.

They don't need to be meaningful, but if you can make them entertaining it would be appreciated.

Just type useless one word posts every 30+ seconds from each other. Easy.

Here's the pics. Top one is the rubber and the bottom one is the metal piece I was talking about.
