500hp should be considered max reliable hp- even then- not sure the diameter of the inner shaft- I'm guessing it is 1" and would fatigue and leave the shaft/one prop as a fish attractor

In todays world, IMHO you can gain just as much with a good xr/xz imco lower and a higher X- might not be as good in some respects on paper- but more available, affordable, reliable and similar/better gains have been attained

Hard to find = NO, lots to be found and fairly cheap too. Check the donzi club site. Props, easier than you think.

Parts avail hard, not really, most internals are Bravo3. Vertical shaft is avail from max machine werx as repro unit.

I have pounded on one with 570hp for 160 hrs so far. Its a tough little drive. A refresh and more ponies are coming this winter too.

As for performance, I haven't heard of a bravo 25 daytona that will run 90 with under 600 ponies yet.

I'm glad its working for you- I'm going by what I've read here and thinking of John Splendario's experience- if you search old threads. I sold him a Whipple, for his HP500 and he could not make the BH stay together though it was a screamer when running. Granted- some people can break anything- but I don't remember John being one of those guys.

My 25 Daytona had about 625-650 (454mag with whipple) and with a 1.5" shorty/Imco i tweaked 99.0, so I'd say that it would deliver similar results with parts still in production.

For anyone considering- go ahead and shop and decide for your self.

I would not want something that had "most" internal parts available cause it only takes one to keep me off the water/making/sourcing my own parts. If it's "all" available and you're good with keeping your own inventory then by all means- it would be the drive to have within reasonable power constraints.

I bought John's damaged drives to get his 31 lab props and wing plate

I think with a blower, just like with a bravo, the torque killed the Bh drives. I will spin my next motor to 6200 to 6500 rpm, stay with a 1.5 gear instaed of the 1.36 John ran and 31,s to find the speed while being relatively easy on the drive. even at15% to 20% slip, it should still put me over the 100 mark and I think, stay together. Building an airation system into the drive to help planing is what kept my drive together I think. The big wheels load the heck out of it when fully submerged.

Small world- sounds like a plan

Seems like my 1.36/ labbed 30 would buzz the prop a little as I rolled over, I always got on plane , and liked this feature as it had to be nice on the drive. I had tried a 26" 4 blade hydromotive before and with the std x it would just drill holes in the water- never came close to planing with 4 of us in the boat- just not enough prop

mine currently has a bravo 26 4 blade...but I am running a 1.50 gear. It will plane with 5 of us in the boat just have to be nice and patient with it.

And thanks for all the info guys keep it coming

I run a 28 bravo 4 blade with 1.36 gear, gets on plane fine with 4 people. I think the tunnel tab extensions help a big.

With a 1.5 bravo and a 28 bravo prop, my boat will plane with full tanks and 5 adults on board. The BH is definately harder to get on plane because the dual 31's load the engine hard and make it tough to get over 3000 rpm when taking off. I designed and added an airation tube thru the top of the drive to loosen up the bite a little. It will now plane with 4 and full tanks but it takes a little while. You do need to be careful with the throttle just as it breaks over the top because the drive comes nearly out of the water asnd unloads real fast. A little practice was all it took and like I said, 8mph gain with no HP increase 83.3 to 91.1 mph gps.

stangjeeper I still need to call you and discuss the hydro steering on your boat. I will probably do the outdrive, steering and drive shower first then add the power.

What is the advantage to a 1.36 gear? Top end I assume but can't you make up the difference with prop pitch or Not?

a 136 gear will give you more top speed and cruise at the same rpm with the same prop IF you can pull it. The typical factory set up on a 25 with a 500efi from Elim was a 136 gear with a 26 prop or a 150 gear with a 28. Both give right around the 80mph mark at 5000 rpm. I tried a 136 with my 28 bravo for a weekend and the boat gained cruise speed but lost a little up top because the 500 could not pull the prop to 5200rpm when it was bone stock.

Definately go to full twin ram steering if you are going to make the boat run fast. Life is worth the money

as I stated before I have a 26 4 blade with a 454 mag my the most rpm mine has ever seen is 4300.......does it have more in it? Is the limiter set at 5200 on the 454 also? Once please excuse my seemingly stupid questions...haha I have been around cars my whole life and work at a hot rod shop part time but I know nothing about boats YET!
