Yup - these 30's are labbed already - I expected to be closer to 100mph with labbed 30's.

I'm pulling my boat out of the water Fri to prep it for the Ft Meyers run - I will check the xDim on both drives to ensure they are true.

On my way back from the run, I am signed up to take Tres Martin's class - in my boat - really pumped about this trip - will be interested to gain his insight as well.

Is there any downside for installing Stallings Stand off boxes? - what's the rough cost per side?

Yes - these were labbed Maximus props.

Boxes are $2,800 per side, full hydraulic steering $3,500 if you don't allready have it or at least brackets, hoses and misc. $2,000, labor to do it all $3-4,000. You're pretty close to $10,000.

We have several older 28 TDs in our area running 625 - 750 NA engines with very few drive problems.

Some run XZs and some run XRs. Some run Bravo 1s and some run 5 blade props depending on the X dim.

I run temp gauges on my drives and about every 100 hours the temps raise a bit and installing new bearings in the drives takes care of it.

The guys running Wipples or 900 - 1200hp blower motors in our area are tearing up drives all the time.

I would have the props checked to determine tolerances on them. Some of what you described may be caused from mis-matched props. Gear ratio may also be something to look into.

The weather really effects this lower HP boats- With my 07 28 ICC 496 x 2 power i really can tell now the air/water temp has warmed up a bit.
At Havasu during the winter it was easily pulling over 100mph with a full load and stock bravo 30p.
During desert storm - loaded with gas and people i had a hard time obtaining anything over 95 mph ! But it was 100 degress out...
Now i switched to my labbed 30's so we'll see how it does this weekend.

BTW- I had a high water pressure code due to the through hull pickup being too long. This retarded my timing so i couldn't pull the RPM needed- something to think about as before Absolute Marine found the code my boat never ran over 97mph. Instantly once they cleared the code and shaved 1/16 off the pick up it went right to 104 mph. A tip for those boats that aren't running the top speed over 100.
