Re: Trouble with Finesse-It II
Great thread, as I will be tackling this soon. Thanks for answering a couple of newbie questions:
How do you "spur" the pads? Does a stainless steel wire brush do this?
With medium oxidation, what would be a good wet-sanding grit progression?

These are for use on wool pads only....they are available at any jobber
for foam you can use a short strand bristle brush......I line to use a blow gun and compressed air.....spin pad blow with air....wear dust mask and safety glasses...

If you need something to "spur" the pads, I use an old straight blade screw driver. A wire brush won't work.
How you clean the wool pad is...place the buffer, pad facing up, on the ground, turn it on and take what tool you'll use and drag it across the spinning pad from center out while applying light pressure. You should see the old product come off as dust. Keep working the tool from inside to outer edge and back till the dust stops coming off.
Be very careful, hold the tool tight. If it slips from your grasp it'll fly and hurt someone.
JETBOAT BRIAN, how come the spur tool you linked is stated as for use on FOAM PADS when it looks like it's meant for wool???

There are tools made to "spur" wool pads , the auto supply again , at the end of the day I always wash them out with water , spin them out , dry over night and they are ready to go the next day. Keep several on hand when buffing , clean works better. I prefer the foam pads with compounds , see prior post , same deal with these , wash out at end of day , keep several on hand , clean works better with these also. One caution --- if you drop the pad --- don't use it till you clean it !!! One small grain of sand etc. and your finish ends up with scratch lines and you could end up back at step 1 !!! Again CLEAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iggy's "spur" method works --- done it this way since I was a kid , don't even own a "spur" tool. But still wash out at end of day --- the clean thing again.
