Default Painting stock Merc intakes

I want to paint my stock 454Mag intakes. Has anyone done this? What preparation is needed for this to be done right? Can they just be cleaned, primed and painted, or does the factory black need to come off?

Advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A mate of mine just did his World intakes for his 10.9s, I'll ask him and let you know.

My manifolds were new and free of any contamination. I primed with an expoxy based primer and top coated in black Imron. The way I would do a used set is glass bead anything that shows corrosion or bare alum. Use a red scotch brite pad and scuff the entire manifold to remove the gloss. Prime with black epoxy and top coat with Imron.
Depending on the condition of your manifolds I would leave the factory paint to act as a good base. If you really wanted to go nuts glass bead the entire manifold but thats up to you. Make sure the manifold is rinsed very well before you paint.

Degrease, sand chips, rough them up with a scuff pad, clean, rinse, paint.
