Never used it. I will be using their primer on my boat soon. But will bite it and pay big bucks for clear.

FC720 Ultimate Overall Clearcoat has been producing great results for not a lot of money. I sell the "KIT" For $75 bucks nowadays. That gets you a gallon of clear and quart of hardener. Sherwin Williams product.

We need the Clear for Base Coat, boat wont sleep in water.
for metallics stick with PPG's dbc system with 2021 clear. you will spend way more time and money trying to get a budget product to work.

+1

The reason I was asking about what kind of base is so you are not finding out on a large boat what is incompatible.

Why not just stay with one brand?

Can't imagine getting done with a boat and find out its not working out,,,,,

agreed crossing brands always makes me nervous . . . . not saying i dont do it lol . . . but it still makes me nervous. For completes i always stick with one brands but if there was a graphic element that was only from HOK or ??? i wouldnt worry about that.

Yes I have sprayed a lot of Awlcraft 2000 base color & clear coat on my customers boats...The clear coat is an easy product to use,,,I'm reducing it down to 12 to 15 seconds with a # 2 zahn cup and spraying with a conventional Binks 2001,,,about 10 lbs pot pressure & 60 lbs at the tip,,,fluid needle #563 ,fluid nozzle #63ss ,air cap #63p....If I'm spraying with the Devilbiss compact or the Iwata hvlp then I'm using a .90 setup and only 27 lbs at the tip and 6 to 8 lbs pot pressure...Personally I'm old school and prefer the conventional gun bcs of almost no orange peel but the transfer efficiency suxs...

We are getting ready to paint my little 24 outlaw. What we are doing is sealing it with Chromapremier sealer, then using chromabase colors. Then we are going to use Imron 3480s clear. I chose the imron clear because of it's durability and also that clear has a very nice shine to it. My other choice would have been imron 500s clear. They run around $250-350 for a gallon setup. So they are not the cheapest but work extremely well.

Being a dupont jobber I have learned a few things over the years. Some of the products like the Chromapremier line are very expensive, but you get what you pay for. Some of our less expensive lines like nason have some great porducts also. Just sometimes have to know which ones to pick. You can save money in some places. Just depends what you are wanting out of it.
