Removing Bottom Paint

I got pricing for removal of bottom paint and bringing back to gel coat from $5,000 (guy doing to drive way) to $15,000 from reputable shops for a 25' boat. Bottom paint will cost me $1,200 to $2,000 with haul out, sanding, feathering, paint, etc from decent shops. Unless its a must have I would just not buy a boat with bottom paint in the future if I was storing on a trailer.

I still have a 1985 Scarab 40 I restored.
Paid 8k (10yrs ago) to blast bottom paint off with walnut shells and respray new gel.
The shop then sanded the gel to a semi gloss. It came out very nice but he told me he
wouldn’t want to do it again. Huge improvement in the way the boat looks.
I wouldn’t look twice at a boat with bottom paint now, but at the time didn’t realize the crazy amount of work involved.
