Default Quickdecision: here's the photos you wanted

Here you go...Tried to PM you but a message said you either weren't accepting or couldn't get PMs.

I've got a Loadmaster trailer, pretty much the same I think. Don't really know the tongue weight, probably around 500 lbs. Balance on the trailer changed a little when I dropped the silent thunder box and swapped to the EMI Thunder aluminum exhaust.

If you've got a 350 in your Burb you're probably a little underpowered. Also axle ratio can make a difference.

I've got surge brakes and the slop drives me nuts.

I'd take it for a test drive before I started relocating axles. Keep us posted. Russ

Russ,
Thanks very much. I do have a 454, it still grunts pretty good
going up steep hills.

What axle ratio you running?

Might try a chip to get more torque.

Outlaw...
Sorry for the late response to your notes. This is the 1st chance I have had to sit down and read the forum. I am unsure of what axle ratio I have. I will look in the owners manual. If it is not listed, I will have to count the tire rotation vs. the axle rotations and determine the ratio.

The computer chip is a good idea. I will search the web to see what I might find for improving the towing characteristics.
By the way, Outlaw looks very nice...

My son and I just got our boat jacked down off the blocks yesterday, from winter storage, uncovered and placed it in the garage. It just barley made
it in. It has a std. size double garage door. We had to us a 6 inch drop down hitch and let air out of the trailer and truck tires, to clear the windshield to the top of the garage door casing. We had an inch and a half to spare. We are getting ready to pull the engines for a rebuild. We'll post pics as we go. We purchased new heads, push-rods, cams, 1 set of roller lifters and roller rockers. I need to get another set of roller lifters and rockers. The fun begins...
Thanks again for all of your help and advice.
Doug

Doug, keep me well up to date on your engine project. I'm going to do something about repowering Outlaw next winter but not sure yet just exactly what.

Thanks for the compliment on Outlaw. I'm real pleased with the way the exhaust system swapout and silent thunder box removal went. Picked up a solid 4 mph top end with just that.

look in your glovebox for the little option sticker, axle codes are as follows...

GT4 = 3.73
GT5 = 4.10
GU6 = 3.42
G80 = positraction
C6P = heavy duty frame

Buizilla,
Thank you very much for the info re: the glove box codes.
We checked ours and found that we have the 4:10 gear ratio, positraction and the heavy duty frame. All good stuff. I was happy to find that...

Well, I took a bunch of pics today, most of them end up being shots to remind me how everything should go back together. Only one shows the port Mercruiser cast iron exhaust just pulled off and hanging by the 2X4.

You didn't say what year 454 you had, but I had a '99 2wd equipped with 454,4.10, posi, C6P.... all I did was add a K&N filter and replace the factory muffler with a Dynomax silent thunder (or something like that) the muffler alone woke that truck up a LOT. Forget the chip, just do the air filter and muffler, stick with 87 octane and run the snot out of it.

Thus far, all we have done is remove the port outdrive, the sun hatch and 3 of the 4 exhaust manifolds. The Mercruiser cast iron pieces ( Man these are heavy ) are tough to remove without stradling with a 2X4. The Revolution marine ( aluminum ) are a breeze. They mount with a combination of studs and bolts. I love them compared to the cast Iron.
I will get some zoomed out shots so you all can see what a mess I have going.
