There are lighter weight black aluminum screws that attach the rub rail, but extend through the deck/hull bond.

Under the rub rail, there are heavier stainless screws with heavy stainless backing plates that are actually the deck/hull bonding screws. These are spaced further apart (like every fourth of fifth rub rail attaching screw). Look at the bond in the engine compartment or side coaming area and you will see what I mean.

I still have some of the stainless bolts, washers, and nylock stop nuts around from my project. I can send them to you for shipping cost if you are interested.
