Chesapeake Bay Get-Together Labor Day Weekend? (Updated thread)
This WAS about the Formula Owners Rendezvous in June 2006. It has been updated to reflect conversations regarding an informal get-together at Dock Of The Bay Restaurant. (See page 2)
Chuck Original thread: ---------------------------------- Who else will be there? We'll be running down from the North end of the bay on Friday late in the morning, if anyone wants to join up. FirstOffshore - Are you in? |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Same weekend as Leukemia Poker Run :(
What a shame, both events are a blast. |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Ted - Sorry we won't see you guys this year. The Rendezvous has been moved from Great Oaks to the Hyatt.
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
If I go I'll be towing most of the way. 13 mpg diesel VS 1 mpg gas.....lets see now. Started a new job too , with with a goofy azz schedule so the could screw things up too :(
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
I wish I had a bigger cabin (and A/C!) on my boat. Rooms are $439/night at the Hyatt.
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Chuck,
Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to make it. I was looking forward to it all year, but we are going to be out of town that weekend. Have fun...as you know, it is a first-class event. I highly recommend it to anyone with a Formula. |

  $439 A night   I'm glad I have A/C and I don't care about the size of the cabin , it's big enough as long as it's cool  On a brighter note , I guess the hotel rates put a new perspective on the price of gas :D :D |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Yep - The Hyatt is pretty proud of that facility (docking is $3/foot + electric + "resort fee"), but most of the participants from the last two Rendezvous' wanted to go somewhere besides Great Oaks. The organizaers looked at several places, including St. Michaels, but selected the Hyatt based on amenities. No doubt - it is very much a 1st-class place. $439/night is way steep, though. Chuck - Have you tried looking for other hotels in the area? Even if you had to take a cab, it would be worth it - you won't be in the room at all anyway.
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
I heard the Hyatt is already sold out. If anyone needs info on other hotels PM me, I can give you some ideas.
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Oh and Chuck, I think the 3.00/foot is the discount rate-normally it's 3.75 on weekends I think  Wait till you check out the bar prices

Let's roll

Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
The Hyatt with the entire facillity is in prime season that is a sweet place to stay. I booked for the opa race a two bedroom sweet for a week.

Now we know who has the money :D :D

Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
OK - Who's coming. Friday night is pirate dress-up and rum blender drink contest night. :drink: (Saturday will be a late start.....)
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Knot me :( . New job and work every Saturday with a day off during the week.
Plus the Hyatts prices take the fun out of it and make it more like an expense  . That will pay for a lot of gas  |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Maybe next year. Have fun and take some pictures to post on the board!!!
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Very cool event, once again. We forgot to take pictures (duh), but expect to get some from the organizers. The weather was not a factor until the run home. 65 miles of rain, sometimes HEAVY - Thank God for full-face helmets!
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Sounds like a thrill  . I was wondering what the outcome was with the miserable weather.
|
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Later this summer we need an "independent" Formula rendezvous on the bay. Certainly there are enough Ches. Bay Formulas around.

Any ideas on location? I think location would be driven by where people are coming from. Treads, were you thinking about a "raft up" or a destintation cruise to a dockbar or something? Should we start a new thread? :) |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
I noticed at least 7 Formulas at Jellyfish Joels today, maybe more. How about a raftup there? I've been there the last 2 weekends rafted up with a few other non-Formula boats and plan to be there again next Sunday, great place :drink:

Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
A run on Labor Day weekend might be good. Even if it happens later that might be o.k. too. Boating on the Chesapeake just gets better after the summer's over until after the Powerboat show.
We had a great stop at Dock of the Bay for the CBPBA Central Run, it's right behind Hart Miller island and they did a real nice job for us. Looks like we could raft 15-20 boats there no sweat. Just a suggestion, I'm out of South River. |

As Chuck mentioned, should we start a new thread? What day would everyone be looking for? Saturday? Sunday? Should we call Dock of the Bay? I went to the Sassafras on Saturday, rafted with a couple boats, about 1/2 mile from the Granary, nice smooth water, clean, beautiful river to cruise also, but a little longer run fro boats from the south. Food at the Granary was great also. |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Our plans are open for Labor Day weekend, and we're always looking for new places to go (besides Lloyd's Creek and Fairlee/Jellyfish). Hart-Miller/Dock of the Bay sounds good to me. I vote for Saturday, September 2 to kick off the weekend.

Called Dock/Bay, said to call tomorrow and asked for Kelly, she's the day manager. I'll post after I here something. Here is a link to their website, I've been there once before, nice place. Certainly looks like they can handle a group, both inside and out, along with docking as insptech said. http://www.dockofthebay.net/ |

Port Deposit...flatbottoms, mini hydros, skiffs....BIG party on the water. Look in the Mariner or Noreaster. We have a blast :D
Chuck and Dianne are a big part of it!! :D |
Re: Chesapeake Bay Rendezvous June 23-25
Spoke with Kelly at Dock of the Bay this afternoon. Asked if they could host a Formula gathering (unofficial) for between 6 and 15 boats, 2 or 4 persons each. She said that they could fit somewhere around 20 boats tops, and thats if there aren't any other people there. Would not make a committment to make it an exclusive thing. :( Told her we would just order from the menu. She said either herself or Jeff Williams would call back.
Any comments or suggestions? |

Number of boats will not be an issue-1/2 of our raft at Dock of the Bay
