New plan. Bigger Formula
I have found a buyer for my 242LS as it sits. We've agreed to a fair price, hopefully the deal will go through. The alternative of course is a long block 502. With parts/labor/etc. the tab would be $9K.
I'm watching prices on 272s, 292s and 311s. Looks like there are a number of good deals out there...and there will probably be more with the high fuel prices. Of course what I don't want to do is buy a boat with tired engines/drives and a rusty old trailer. Decisions, decisions. I'd like to stay under $30K if possible. A year ago I wouldn't have thought it was possible...but I think perhaps now we are in a buyer's market. I don't have a question really...but if folks spot a deal feel free to point it out. But please no Bayliners! :) |

Here's a 1988 272 with twin (recent) 350 MAG MPIs.
I wonder if that combination would break 60mph? http://www.yachtworld.com/core/listi...oat_id=1536297 |
Re: New plan. Bigger Formula
Mine might work for you.
But NOT if you want the silent thunder box.....:D Am also not going to wholesale it....it's too strong of a package. |
Re: New plan. Bigger Formula
Outlaw,
Yeah that's a nice looking boat. The wife would miss the platform. I'd have to rig up a boom to hoist her out of the water or something. :) Hang in there for the right buyer. After years of buying high and selling low...I'd like to find a steal. Maybe I'll find someone that needs to sell quickly to pay off their loan shark or something. Someone once told me that the difference between buyers and sellers is about $5K. With boats and big dreams it's problably more... Chuck |
Re: New plan. Bigger Formula
A local guy contact me last week wanting to sell his 1988? 272. 350's with about 15 hours since rebuilds and Alpha SS drives (whatever they are). Don't know the guy or the boat but have seen it on the trailer and it looks clean. He claims it's in great condition. I think his bottom dollar is about $25-27K. Let me know if you want more info.

Thanks for the lead...I may follow up with you on it. I need this deal on the 242LS to close. Hopefully early next week.

Re: New plan. Bigger Formula
Personally I wouldn't buy a boat with twin Alpha's. They are not counter rotating so both props are spinning in the same direction. This causes the boat to hadle poorly.
