Boat names
Hey,
I was wondering what names people called their formulas??? I was just interested to know if you renamed your formula or kept the name from the previous owner if it's second hand!! My old 86' 272-sr1 i called it 'shark' My current 311-sr1 is called 'Distant Thunder' Anybody got any interesting names?? |
Re: Boat names
I don't know as though it's all that interesting but, my 89 311 is called (as you can see) ThirdBird. It's my third Thunderbird Formula and it has a nice little ring to it.
Of course, I have to put up with "TurdBird" from one of my little buddies in A-Bay who just happens to own a beak-bote. :blaster: As for keeping the previous name,,,,,,,,,, that's just outdated superstition. Actually, it's kinda creepy to me. |
Re: Boat names
My boat was named "First Born" by the original owners. (As in they had to give their first born to buy it I guess.) It had that name for about 10 years before the second owner took the name off and left it with no name. I am the third owner.
I work in the IT industry and most of our work his being offshored, so I named her "Offshored". Kinda fits for the type of boat it is - SR1 311. I wanted to put Banglador, India as a location but my wife didn't like it. Now I can tell people at work I have an "Offshore" meeting and I'm telling the truth. :D |
Re: Boat names
I named my 272SR1 "Under Pressure" because I installed Whipples.

Re: Boat names

Re: Boat names
I install computer cabling and have a twin 38 so I thought Twisted Pair was appropriate :drink:

Re: Boat names
Be creative; tie in the boat and what you do for a living at the same time if possible. For instance, I'm an accountant so I thought to name my formula "accounting formula". you know Assets= liab. + owners equity and its a formula boat.....Cheesy pun, I know.
Second choice was a term referred to me in college..."blaze of glory".... Because I always said if I go down its going to be n a blaze of glory. Plus Bon Jovi is one of my favorite bands....Cheesy again, I know. Third Choice: Its the "Indy 500 edition" formula so I thought "Formula One" may work. Obviously I am having some trouble picking one so I am in the same boat as you......I didnt mean for that to be a pun. |

I own a 271 Fastech which most of you know is the smallest hull of the Fastech line, so I suggested .......after a few beers.....that "BABY FORMULA" would be good. My buddies almost kicked my a$$ on the spot. Scrap that idea.....eventhough the women liked it. Next....after the supercharger and many many many many $$$$$.....I came up with "BLOWN SAVINGS" (so true). This is still my favorite but I am too broke to have it painted on. Therefore, now, I am still a John Doe Formula. Hope I helped. Greg |
Re: Boat names
A previous boat of mine, to which I never actually applied the name to, was called "Seagasm". A little tacky though I did use it on the radio. Had to talk to the Coast Gaurd in Oswego, NY one time. Identified myself as "Seagasm". Coast Gaurd asked me to repeat the name, I did, long silence then we continued our discussion. Don't know if they were laughing or what. Decided I'd better get a more politically correct handle after that. :drink:

Re: Boat names
We're on our 4th Formula - past 2 were blower motors - We now have 419 w/ trips so went with Trips 2 Win. Did the playing cards, an Ace, 3 Kings & a Queen. We have 2 boys so the 3 kings are either the 3 motors or me & my boys, the wife is the queen and the boat is the Ace in the hole. :drink:

Re: Boat names
Hey Steve!
We were parked next to you at the Rendezvous. Did you get your windshield fixed? Our boat is Leapin' Liz. Boating at LOTO she does a lot of that, but the name really came from my wife as it's an email handle that she uses. Her name is Liz and she was born on Feb. 29th so she's a leap year baby. |

You notice his thread has vanished, wonder what happened there ? |
Re: Boat names
This may seem like a silly name but my parents first boat was named after mom and my two sisters. The name was BONRUCA. BONnie, RUth (mom), CArol.

I had a few things go wrong when I bought my 242, but fixed evrything up. When I tell the wife what I am doing next she just laughs, and says this is a bad subject :D

I named mine the "Intimidater" after the late great #3. The boat also happens to be Earnhard Goodwrench colors. I just wish the 330 had thru hulls so it at least sounded intimidating...winter project.

Re: Boat names
My dad stored the boat at one of his buddies houses, when my parents got divorced his friends had the name ---What she didn't get!!! --- put on it and they told my mom to drive by and look at the boat, she thought it was hilarious and we would get honks all the time when trailering the boat I took the name off when I bought it....still makes us all laugh

Re: Boat names
My 353 is named "XTRAS" being a building contractor we like billing out lots of Xtras! :D :drink:

I am trying to think of clever names for my 91 242 SS as well. I Bought it last summer and I am still thinking of names. Was thinking of naming it "Wingnut" since it is a Thunderbird, and my wife thinks I am nuts. Thoughts? please be honest!
|
Mine is I.C.U. Lookin'. Wife is an icu nurse so it works.
Wingnut is cool |
|
I'm a funeral director and I named my previous boat (a 311 Formula) "Major Undertaking". As boat owners we ALL know what a pain in the A$$ boats can be and how expensive our hobby is!

dam dave that 3111 was awesome
|
My 382 is named Willy quick ..my name is Bill but a lot of my friends call me Willy so I guess it fits
|
Naming my 242 same as my previous 330; "Squanderer" because one the obvious squandering of my money , but also I live in a town called Manasquan and we all call it Squan for short. Little play on words.

Thanks Sam, I was just trying to envision how that boat would have looked if I had taken a nail gun and some teak to it! |
Mine is " Quick Getaway"
|
Named our last boat (32' Carver Mariner) "Social Therapy" because it fits what we do with the boat (socializing) and our son is autistic, but seems much more grounded and in control when he's on the water. The people who bought the Carver immediately changed the name. Our new-to-us 255 Liberator was unnamed so we are reusing "Social Therapy". It's just a cool name.
|
I sell Volkswagens so my boat's name is "Think Blue" and also have a smlaan "bluemotion technology" sign under the name.
|
When I got my new to me 271, it was named "Wastin' Away." How cliche is that? Fairly sure I had that name off the boat within 2 days of ownership. I have since renamed it "Formula For Fun"
|
THE OTHER WOMAN
Where I spend most of my time and MONEY! |
Since I spend most of my time on Barnegat Bay, I named my 252 "Priscilla Queen of the Bay". Or Prissy, for short, which is quite fitting because she's been a bit of a handful/pocket-empty lately.
|
When I got my 242SS it was named "having fun 3", which seemed lame to me so that name was removed right away. It has since remained nameless partially because I am thinking of selling it.
The 242LS didn't have a name but when I showed guys at work the pics of the boat they would say oh that is one of those cigar boats. I was really weary of hearing that so it is named "No Cigar". I changed the name of the 357 with the Coast Guard so now it is "Silver Lining" because on the boat is the silver lining to everything for us. |
My 242LS is for some or other reason called ;)

bought mine with the name "Secret Formula" thought it fit so i kept it!
|
Finally came up with a name for mine..... it's a 357 SR-1 so I named it "SIR REEL-1". Was gonna be "SurReal-1", but the girlfriend had to put her twist on it too..... It works and usually stirs a little conversation with most when they see it. (Formulas seem to be few an far between down my way) Granted everybody knows it will never see a fishing pole!
|
Is that the 242 that was for sale last fall in western new york?
|
Getting ready to name mine... My wife for some reason thinks NEVER -E- NUFF ,,,,, is an appropriate name for mine. Seems she thinks I'm never happy, always want bigger, faster, stay to late and go to far... Hmmmmm I guess I like it.
