Prochargers do seem to make alot of power but they are set-up very rich and get lousy fuel economy (approx .8 mpg) Maybe this set up is wrong, but I don't want to pressurize the engines. More CI seems to make the most sense because I feel the need to go into the engines anyway. I figure if I do this right then I'll be able to run 3-4 years (minimum) without opening them back up. |
Re: Anyone have over 500hp in a 382 ???
I'm running 600 Volvo/Innovation's. 540 ci/1:47 drive/26.5" pitch. We cruise at 3600/55 mph to 3900/60 mph. Best top end ever is 78.7, but the boat will run 75 any day. DPX drives are a little "draggy" at higher speeds. No boxes - don't make 'em for those drives. Genny, A/C, water heater, 2 full coolers, etc., etc., etc. 1.0 mpg day after day....

Thanks, Russ C. Boat was set up with the props turning inward when I bought it. Have not tried turning them turning out. Actually like the way it rides turning in. The curve on my cams favors higher rpm. Actually a little weak on low-end planing, but when R's hit 3000 rpm, better hold on! HP peaks @ 5800, but I'm propped @ 5400 with the 28's. Probably a little more top end in it with some custom lab work, but the heavy 382's don't seem to respond very well to standard labbing. |
Re: Anyone have over 500hp in a 382 ???
575's SCI, extension boxes, Bravo XR, sportmaster lowers with 5 blade (29 pitch) Hyromotive props (not labbed). Depending on weather and weight, I've seen 76-80 mph.

t500 ... sounds like you landed youself a nice one... we were looking at the fastechs before settling on the top gun. I look forward to seeing the boat with your upgrades... I had the same concerns for the long trips we make here in So Cal.

I remember you guys picked up a nice looking Gun recently. Even my wife likes the looks of the Top Guns but the cabins just don't suit us as well with 5 people sleeping in it for several days at a time. I'll be posting more info as the builds progress, we'll probably be pulling them out of the boat in about a month. What we end up building in the end is what everyone is going to want to know anyway. |

I hvae a set of Steeling 12" stand off boxes for sale if you want to change your X while doing the engine project. I have a 96 382 w/ Hp 500's for Florida in the winter and 540's, 600 Hp with little B&M's for the river in the summer - 650 Hp shows 84 mph - this is a non step bottom
