My 292 is a 2002 model and came with non-labbed props from the factory as I know.
When did Formula start using labbed props as standard on the 292 ?
I suddenly remember that the previous owner of my boat told me that he was running 69 MPH GPS with 350 Mags before he bottom painted the boat. And that was with the standard 28" Bravo Ones (non-labbed). The 350 Mags had Stainless Marine exhaust and silent choice but I am not sure if that would make a difference.

My 02 292 with 350mags that I traded in to Magicfloat would run an honest 70 on gps on a perfect day, 68 consistantly, with 2 people and half tank of fuel, 1.65 drives and bravo 28 pitch props(non labbed)ooooh and just for Cuda's sake,,,,a bimini..lol
Roberts right on about lack of consistantcy,,,10 different boats all set up identically will all run differently as far as speed/handling .

Are there any aftermarket headers that can be installed on either engine to improve performance similar to the CMI's for 496's?

I saw 72 mph (GPS) recently after S/T removal, up from a best of 71.

Stock 6.2s, 28p Bravo non-labbed props, 2 people, 1/2 tank of gas, full water tank.

Sea level, 1-ft chop, 68 degrees, low humidity...IMO about as perfect as conditions get for a speed run in stepped V-hull.

I agree with the statement that either engine package will be great, as the 292 is just a fun boat. Better to get a great deal on a super clean 350 Mag package and tweak the engines for more speed than buy a thrashed 292 w/6.2s and have to deal with cosmetics, interior flaws, etc.

I have a 2006 292 with 6.2's, 28 labbed Bravos, 1.65 gear. Bought the boat from Robert. Dinged the left hand prop on a log over the summer, enough to take it to Mazco Props to be repaired. Basically lost 1.5-2.0 mph after that prop was worked on (was 71mph, now more like 69). Both props are at Mercury and I am looking to get that mph back and tweak a little more rpm since I currently top out at 5000 rpm.

You guys may be interested... In late October I took the boat out solo in cool weather, 3/4 tank fuel, pen and paper in-hand, and recorded rpm and mph (SC5000 SmartCraft) at various rpm levels to calculate prop slip. Here they are:

3400 rpm 42 mph 23% slip
3800 rpm 50 mph 18% slip
4200 rpm 57 mph 16% slip
4600 rpm 63 mph 15% slip
5000 rpm 69 mph 14% slip

Anyways... I got major plans for upgrades in a few years. Right now she is at Competition Marine Center having 280S K-Planes installed...

We have seen an occasional increase going from lab 28's to stock 26's on some 292's. Not written in stone and not in every case, but we do see it.Seems that slip is less with stock props on the 271 and 292 for some reason.Probrably cause the boats are so heavy. Lab props work better on lighter, faster boats.
