F2 edition 382 question

Hello All-

So I have been kicking around the idea of buying a F2 editon 382 and turning it into a "pleasure boat". Has anyone ever put in a small cabin simialr to a 38ZR comp into one of these? Can you access the front "cabin area" through the deck?

My girl friend has a requirement that she needs a small place to change and a portipote. For Florida boating I think this would be a great boat!

Thanks
Don

You could make it happen, basically just a opened hull without the standard cabin insert, although you need to be aware that the dash is extended back to adjust the weight properly for racing, so it is not a standard 382 dash configuration. But yes sure it could be done, we have crawled all over the front of ours and with some work a cabin could be built. The Let's Play Racing F2 is for sale, 2003 World Champion Boat, Fastest Formula F2 out there without a doubt. Contact me for details.

Thanks for the info. I do know that the dash is different and set back farther. Thats the reason I really like them. They handle so much better. I was out on one this last summer and was impressed to say the least. I think one of these with a simple half cabin would be awsome!

What one do you own? How do you get below the deck on yours? Do you know how many were built?

Thanks again
Don

There were many built from I think 1998 to 2003, ours is the last one built new and the product of all that racing experience rolled into one boat, hence the World Championship win. We crawl in thru the front under the dash, but theoretically you could make a deck access as you asked about in your first post. We own the 2003 F2 World Championship boat, we are the team that raced it, and if you looking for one, this is the one, call Lou we are ready to seriously make an interested party a great deal.

They were great boats in F2. The only problem I experienced was the wind coming off the deck. I had to bury my head in the head rest to keep my head upright.

The access area is basically a small hole covered by canvas. However, the opening could be cut-out and a custom door could be fabricated. There is a ton of room for a half cabin. It is the only thing that the F2 needs to be perfect for pleasure use.

That's what I am thinking.

What type of speed did they see with 500's?

firstoffshore 03-07-2007 08:13 PM

Mine would do 81 MPH with 496HOs.

firstoffshore 03-07-2007 08:37 PM

No...but if you find one, I think that you will be happy. Formula made just over a dozen of the F2 382 Kevlar boats. They were an extremely expensive layup, but proved to be successful in winning the World and National championships. Mine was originally rigged with 500s, but never put in the water. After Formula's promotional tour, the engines/drives came out (don't know the story) and the boat was available without power or a trailer (Formula kept the trailer). For a brief moment it looked like F2 was going 496HO in 2005, so the dealer suggested this package. I never planned to race the boat and went ahead with the 496HO/XZ package. The result was outstanding and affordable for pleasure use (80+MPH on black Mercury power). With the former 470hp package the same boat will run 84+MPH and with 525s (or Whipples on the 496HOs) it will run 94+MPH.

That picture is amazing. I wonder how far he is off the water?

THEJOKER 03-07-2007 09:32 PM

I always thought this was the best picture EVER in offshore. Daytona 2001. Pat Bihary(t) and Nevile Moberly(d) in the boat.

I agree with you on the picture. At 8200 lbs...the F2 382 will literally fly. Before I bought my boat, I was concerned that it might end up feeling too light. As you know, this is not the case. The boat is perfectly balanced and feels solid as a rock.

THEJOKER 03-07-2007 09:46 PM

F2-62 ran 9O + mph w/ 500 efi's. Fast man. My friend Louise (girl) throttled it in The Worlds and finished 3rd. Yep not bad for a chick!

That is really dialed in...

So for a pleasure boat mid 80's is realistic?

TGC-32 03-08-2007 12:46 PM

Mine is for sale also, and with all due respect to all of the other boats out there it is without a doubt the fastest one done. The bottom received a FULL blue print and LOTS of dialing-in time. It saw 92 MPH in competition during the '02 worlds (third overall finish; second fastest boat on the course).

Ask any of the technical guys at Formula or Jim Arvis from Arvis Marine about this boat. We retired from racing immediately after the Daytona 2003 race, but the boat is perfect and ready to go with FRESH 500's (less than 10 hours). It hasn't been in the water in three years.

MAKE ME AN OFFER!!! Otherwise I'm going to have to race it again and my wife will kill me!

dgduck13,
This could be your next boat. Life is short...just do it. These kevlar boats are extremely durable. Don't be afraid of a former Formula race boat. It will last forever. Just my two cents.

Thanks!! Just waiting on the blower shop now. :D

Ours will run in the 90's with full fuel. By the way we are thinking of moving into a larger class some day, so selling this boat would be a good thing for us. Contact me with your best offer, who knows you may get lucky

Still trying to find insurance..... Being 26 years old not many insurance companies want to insure me in a 85 to 90 mph boat even with over 10 years of experience, no clams, good credit and a clean driving record. The cheapest quote I found was double what I pay now for my 1998 382 with 502's and for that kind of difference I will keep what I have. Still trying though......

PM me with your best selling price and will talk.....

Thanks
Don

JKK and Tom I think we might need to bring the F2s out from retirement and hit a poker run together! And JKK be carefull about the fastest f2 might cause a grudge match lol!

Pat F2-62

JKK 04-13-2007 08:40 AM

We are in for the poker run, let us know I am sure we can make something happen...Just thinking of it reminds me of the good ol days when 20 to 30 F2s ran together in a race. how the hell did they screw that up ?

legendlc 05-10-2007 03:54 PM

Still for Sale?

JKK is the 382 still up for sale?

BobbyB 05-18-2007 12:03 PM

Whats the fastest any of these race boats have been?:D :D

JKK 05-21-2007 01:35 PM

Yes it is still for sale !!!!!!!!!!!!

TGC-32 05-22-2007 03:04 PM

We're in for the poker run, too. I've got to do something with the damn boat! It really is a shame, and I would love to see someone use this boat, Jeff's boat, and all of the others out there.

Not pissing on any sales pitch but if Formula moved the dash back for balance, wouldn't adding a cabin upset that balance?

Not too good:( :(

current owner of treadwells 382 that won the worlds and national in 2000. It’s seen 97mph at LOTO, ofcourse not with powered by the 500’s any longer. Was told Eric and Jack claimed 95.6 in the salt/perfect conditions in race days.

F-2 Speedy 08-11-2021 07:40 AM

14 yr old thread, I think the claim of 95.6 is a stretch

aware of the age of the thread, just putting information out there that was given to me. As far as claim very possible. At one point hydromotive Apperently had a piece on there website supporting claims.

Was told Eric claimed 7800. Have nothing to support that. There is a thread on here with previous owner who spoke directly to Treadwell and posted some info on it. Got ahold of hydromotive who had all specs on it with the claims on 95.6 (Eric said everyone was breaking personal records that day) and they are seeing if they can find any old info on it. Entire bottom has been blueprinted on this boat all edges shaved sharpened. Scott Ransbottom at Formula was pretty excited when I called about it. Remembered working directly on this boat with the porters stopping by periodically to check in on it.
