Looking at a 1990 206 LS
Hello folks,
New to the site. I will be looking at this boat in a couple weeks. It has the 5.7 motor with a Volvo/Penta duoprop outdrive. This is the first I've seen with this drive as all others have the Mercuiser. Anything I should look out for?

My 1988 F-206 is perfect. I've had it for 6 years now and I haven't had any trouble.
Well, maybe one spot. If there are any circuit breakers under the bench seat, right side next to battery switch, make sure they all work. Mine are exposed to water from cleaning and they all need replacing now. 6 aircraft type circuit breakers at 60.00 each gets expensive.
Just be very thorough in your inspection. Try every swich, every light, every cincuit breaker, make sure all the controls and instruments work smoothly. Water test it and listen for strange noises or vibrations. Look for any damage to hull and deck. Look for spider cracks which will indicate damage.
If the boat has the Silent Thunder platform ask if the boat has been stored in the water for any length of time. Sometimes water seeps into the plywood backing in the platform causing rot.
And ask when the Volvo drive was installed. I doubt it came from Formula with it.
If you want, got to www.formulaboats.com then go to the Owners Community the to Vintage Formula the Brochure. You can download a copy of the original brochure from 1990.

Thanks for the info. I did go to the Formula site prior to see if the Volvo drive was an option. The boat does not have the silent thunder exhaust. Another boat in my price range is a 22 foot scarab but between the two, the Formula looks to be a better all around package. The current owner seems like a pretty good guy and has been straightforward with all the answers to my questions. I guess I'll see in a couple weeks.

The 206 is more along the lines what I'm looking for. We have a Wellcraft Corsica 37' express and are looking for a boat to run around in. We boat in the CA Delta and it would be a good combination of size and performance.
