Wow, after hearing all these great stories about Bald Knob, between sales and service maybe I should look elsewhere to buy a boat. To all of you that want to build your motors, unless your keeping your boat forever, keep it stock. Trading it in, or selling it outright, the boat is worth more stock.Take it from someone who has first hand experience.

I heard rumors that there may be a new Fastech between the 292 and 353 coming out in 09. Could be the speed solution if you can wait and want to trade up.

How about pulling your motors and dropping in a pair of 400 smallblocks like you can get at a hotrod shop. You just need to add your marine hardware. A good motor shop could make real good hp with these and when you are ready to trade put stock motors back in. Just an idea!

To tell everyone the truth.. I have no clue what I want to do.
I would love to buy a 353 with t-575.. BUT!!!! thats also a good $450K+.........
I will say that Bald Knobs sales is GREAT but the service is the worst EVER

We'll take your 292 in trade on a new 33 Active Thunder. (same size as 353 Formula)

See the link in my signature.

What an interesting thread. It seems to me it would make sense for an engine builder to come out with some kind tricked out small blocks. They weigh sooooo much less. The fuel economy is soooo much better and the size of the boats that would rock with small blocks are so much easier to deal with than the big monster 35 plus boats out there. I absolutely love my 292 but I'm frustrated with the performance. Have been since the day I bought. it. If anyone knows of a engine builder doing something with small blocks I'd like to hear about it. If gm can build a 7.4l small block with 500 plus hp, I'm sure someone could come up with something! -Nick

trade the Rover on a 2500HD Duramax and get a 353 with stock 500s or 525s, you're now going 80 reliably and your friends will respect you for getting a real truck.....

You and me both, Nick!!

When the budget (and wife) allows I will be working with a local shop (Competition Marine Center) to build and dyno a couple big inch, purpose built small blocks. Probably naturally aspirated EFI's to start. Reliable 500HP at 5400-5600 rpm will be no trouble. Will pluck out those 6.2's complete and put them in the corner of the garage. That 292 will be a whole different animal and fun little sleeper.
