Has anyone supercharged a 292 with 6.2's???? if so, what do you think?? Im loving my boat just want more speed. Not to sure if its even worth it to mess with engine work or to just trade it in for something else.

I've had the exact same debate going on in my head. Should I spend thousands getting the performance where I'd like it to be which would make the boat worth less than it is stock, or do live with it or step up to a different boat. I'm leaning toward a repower. I'll keep you posted.-Nick

I too have been kicking around the same question: Add more power to the 292, or move up to a 353 or similar boat with some serious big-blocks.
A recent issue of powerboat had a letter in the stern drive section asking about more speed from a late model 292 w/ 6.2s. (I think it was May 2007).
The PB Mag response was that high-flow exhaust (CMI was listed) should add 5+ MPH with a re-prop and improve mid-range performance. Not the 10-15 mph I'd like to see, but it can be done for < $5k /side, and would be required anyway if you're going to add superchargers.
I'm leaning towards the e-top header install this winter. Right now I've got a nice, reasonable payment on my 292 and aren't getting hit at the gas docks as hard as those with 600 HP big blocks.
As with everyone else, I'm curious to hear from someone who has blown their 292 with 377's...

Well I have made up my mind....
My friend just suprecharged his 06 292 with 60 hours.
He blew the port motor mintues into his first ride. Dumbass.
Im upgrading to either a 35 ICBM or some others I have in mind.
I love the feel of a Formula but seems to me they are just looking to build more and more boats with less quality.
Plus Bald Knobs service on the Chain is like pulling teeth.
anyone have any ideas on a cool boat no one has???!!?!?!?
and also that isnt 500K
I had to wait 3 weeks for a freaking oil change.

What kind of superchargers did he put on? How much boost?
The real question is did they really change the oil?

When your buddy finds out why the motor blew, please post the info. As someone else asked, how much boost was he running? Was it self-install or done at a shop? Who re-mapped the ECMs?
I'm thinking of forced induction for my 292, but would go fairly mild - I'm only looking for another 100HP or so, think I can see low 80 MPH range with that setup.
I've always heard that much more than 450 HP you're dramatically increasing the risk of Bravo One failure anyway.

Blowen motor update......
Well He had some shop do it here in Chicago. I didnt ask what boost he was running but I would think no more that 5-7lbs.. Im not sure. As for chaning he changed everything. Drive lube, motor oil (I think he put a different oil in)
Hey RHSJ2006
What are you thinking of doing to your 292... Im not looking for crazy speed. I thinking maybe low 80's
I test drove a 353 with T-500's. It was nice.. Well very nice..
The biggest issue I have is towing my boat.. I have a hard enough time towing my 292 with a new Range Rover. And Im not about to go and spend 300K on a boa then 50K on a truck to tow it.
I really wanna stay with th 292 but I want about 10-15 more mph....????!!!
