Another silent thunder thread
#1
Hi!
Has anyone ever tried to take the silent thunderplatform apart? Splitting the two glassed halves apart? Im about to give it a go but it seems lika VERY tough job, it seems that formula used alot of that green resin to glue the two halves together.
Heres what i´ve done sofar; I removed the glassed wood in the back of the platform because it was in really bad shape.
Now Im trying to split the platform apart but its a timeconsuming work.
The reason why im trying to do this is that I want to remove the grabhandles (and some do some other modifications) and give the platform some new paint.
My boat is a 292 SR1 89' with ocean #2 Imron paint.
thanks!

On our older SR1s, the "silent thunder" is the whole platform, not just a box underneath.
Freddan, I think at least one other member just rebuilt the platform altogether. Hopefully they'll chime in with their experience. Otherwise, it sounds like maybe a Roto-Zip might be the best bet for just cutting the seam?

That could be a real chore to split the platform open. As you've noticed, the upper and lower halves are rivited through the rub rail. It's probably also glued like the main hull-to-deck joint. Chances are, if it's glued, you'll never get it apart without destroying it.
Why do you want to split it open?
