Last update for a while - Shutting down for Christmas/New Years. Happy Holidays, everyone!

New serpentine belt system mockup and bilge rigging progress:

SOX 01-05-2008 07:41 PM

Holy smokes Chuck!!! You and Dianne have done a great job so far. I am glad to see it all going so well. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. As you know I am not the best rigger around but I will be happy to lend my "helper" services to you. (I promise I won't work a 19 hour day prior to helping you.)

Taker care buddy,

Rob

C_Spray 01-07-2008 12:56 PM

What are you doing this weekend???? :D

SOX 01-07-2008 10:16 PM

I am on call this weekend so I won't be able to go that far from home. However I am available the next Sunday the 20th. And the following Sunday the 27th. I know it's not much but now that I have my calender open that's all I have free this month, sorry.

R Addiction 01-13-2008 06:23 PM

Come on Chuck updates....:D I was blown away when I walked into the garage and saw the shelves (all 4 units with 4-5 shelves a unit) full of parts  The bilge looks awesome, great job Dianne:D Don't forget to call when you are putting them beautys back in.:party-smiley-004:

Chuck......it sounds like Humpty Dumpty over there.........and everyone knows how that turned out!!!!!! :D

C_Spray 01-15-2008 07:30 AM

"Oh, ye of little faith..." More updates coming soon. Hint: Think: "Holy Crap!!!".

There is not one part that has not been cleaned up, dressed up or blinged up after it came out of the boat. Even the split loom covering has been replaced. It's been great after-work therapy for me. I can get out from behind my desk and back to my mechanical, machining and fabrication roots. I don't think that I would want to do this every year, though.....

R Addiction 01-15-2008 08:24 AM

Organized Chaos Nort!!! The dirtiest my hands got all day/night was during dinner with the BBQ Ribs. An uninteruppted flow of forward progress was made. Wait til you see it. If its not painted its powdercoated, if its not powdercoated its polished, if its not polished its gonna be one of the above!!:D

Treads 01-26-2008 01:35 PM

The progress so far is outstanding. Very nice work. Can't wait to see the completed project. You must hae the Admiral working overtime as well as yourself. :cool-smiley-011:

They were there from the factory, although I am missing one on the starboard side. I'm just going to use some of the "Good Stuff" expanding foam that comes in a aerosol can to fill that one in, and seal it over with a layer of West System epoxy. I don't see any need for them to be removable.

Thanks for the support, folks. There are times when this seems like more than we can handle, but if you tackle things on a one-by-one basis, you suddenly notice progress. For example, now I'm clean when I come home from working on it and the money outflow has slowed to a trickle. It's way more fun bolting shiny, clean, freshly-refurbished parts back on that it was to pull rusty, grimy bits off and spend hours in the parts washer and glass-bead booth. I'm sooo grateful for Dianne's help - What a trooper. I shudder to imagine what this project would cost at $80 or $100 per hour for some shop's labor!

Hopefully, I'll have more pictures of visible progress to post next week.

Whatever you say Humpty Dumpty!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

jenks 01-29-2008 10:21 PM

thanks

C Spray, thanks keeping the thread alive. I'm sort of doing the same thing with my 382 and my wife is very supportive. I'm at that point where you are, but my power objective is completely different then yours. If I could learn how to post pics I would share.

R Addiction 01-30-2008 08:03 AM

Jenks, There will be plenty of more pics and posts. This boat is going thru a multi faceted upgrade.

Posting pics is easy... just make sure you have them downsized. Microsoft image resizer works well and is free on the microsoft site.

Just hit advanced below quick post, then manage attachments. As stated, you will have to resize to 1024x768 prior to attaching pix! Hope this helps, we'd all like to see some pictures of a similar project!

the site software will resize for you. I never have to resize 13xx by 15xx pixel jpegs

Never works for me at 25xx by 19xx. When I resize, the upload is very quick!

Dave

Rippem 01-30-2008 01:24 PM

there is probably a limit to what original size the resizing software can handle.

Sorry for the hi-jack C

bilge looks good!
did you post pics of the motors completely dressed yet?

jenks 01-30-2008 10:13 PM

with C's ok, I'll post some pics that he my want to see on his thread for comparison. power going in 598 all dart, drives no 7 arnesons.

Sydwayz 01-31-2008 02:10 AM

Chuck, the project looks FANTASTIC. Great work and can't wait to see the finished product.

[ATTAC H]323824[/ATTACH] Now if I cound just figure out how to arrange the pics that would be cool. C do you have vacuflush system.

C_Spray 02-05-2008 07:45 PM

Nope. Just a PortaPottie with a pumpout. Looks like you have the macerator option?

jenks 02-10-2008 10:42 PM

masarator w/vacuflush tank that I need to move some where other than the bilge. I need to move my batterys forward. you have your bake seat support cut away for genpack how much room does it give you going forward of seat bulkhead.

Progress on engine dressing (Thanks, RAddiction!), double Group 31 battery bracket, and "bling-y" engine room platform. Now, if I can just find a large enough paint booth, things would really be looking good...

R Addiction 02-17-2008 08:45 PM

Glad to help!! After friday I won't be much help unless you keep the weight down:rolleyes: See you next weekend.:D

SOX 02-25-2008 08:36 PM

I finally go tot see the "project" in person. Chuck you have done a fantastic job so far buddy! I had no idea how deep this job really is. Just way too many really cool things being done on your boat to list them all.

Take care,

Rob

BTW Thanks agin for Saturday night!!! Everything was GREAT!!

BlackJack58 02-25-2008 08:52 PM

Thanks for these updates - this is an awesome project and a beautiful-looking boat. Very inspirational.

Thanks! Parts of it (refurbishing engine wiring harnesses, washing parts, stripping paint) get tedious :signs069:, other parts (machining new gizmos) are fun :eureka: , and the "what do I do here?" head-scratching parts can drive you nuts  .

If nothing else, at least I know the exact status of every clamp, hose, screw, wire, and bracket between the rear seat and the transom! :p

I just hope that it has a positive effect on re-sale in 5 years or so.......

Progress on the engines today - Almost ready!

Before, After, and "The Boys"

axapowell 02-26-2008 08:26 PM

Looking Great!! BIG improvement!!

Can’t wait to see them installed in the boat. How’s the paint coming on the boat?

Treads 02-26-2008 08:48 PM

Power looks great, very nice work. They will look awesome when you drop them in. I'll be available Saturday for a while if you need an extra set of hands, let me know. I can get you the stickers for the trailer too.

Let me know.

R Addiction 02-26-2008 09:31 PM

Wires look good Chuck.....Whats next? :D

You should get some up closse shots of the serpentine belt setup, you know....the one you made. One word......Awesome:cool-smiley-011:

C_Spray 02-27-2008 10:16 AM

Axa - Paint prep work is finished, final shooting is scheduled for March 7/8.

Treads - Thanks for the offer (and the trailer!), but i'm out of town this weekend....

R - I think I'll wait until we test-run the engines to make sure they don't spit the belt off like a watermelon seed! Next up is final bilge prep: install the platform, genny, sea strainer modifications, power steering plumbing. With all the travel I have in the next few weeks, I'm still hoping to wrap it up by the end of March - 5 very tough months!

R Addiction 02-27-2008 10:25 AM

I should be good to go by mid march.....just give me a call.:D

MF 02-29-2008 07:49 AM

Great Job !!! That boat is going to look really sick !
