Chuck, Whats up for this weekend?
|
Most likely The Ganary/Georgetown on the hook Friday night, and Havre de Grace/Tome's condos Saturday night. Daytime destinations undetermined, but I would suspect a mix of Still Pond, Lloyd Creek, and the Susquehanna Flats.
You have mail.... |

This is NOT my boat, but check out the killer diamand-plate job this guy did on this 382 in the Classifieds. Makes my stuff look punk. I couldn't do the diamond plate generator cover, as my hot water heater would get in the way, but - W-O-W!!! Very, very nice.
|
Holy Smokes that's awesome!!! My old lady wants to know it it's for sale
|
I've had a request to bump this thread back up, so here it is.
Confession: I ran this boat for 30 hours after the rebuild before properly checking the ignition timing. When I took the engines apart, I marked the distributors and intake manifolds. When I finally re-checked them yesterday, the starboard engine was perfect at 8 degrees BTDC, and the port engine was only 1.5 degrees off at 6.5 BTDC. (I always said that I'd rather be lucky than good...) |
I'm Glad everything is still going well Chuck!

Chuck And Diane Wow What A Weekend Now Out Of 40 Of Us 15 Dont Remember Friday Night! Had A Blast Great Seeing You Guys And Boat Looks Better In Person Pics Don't Do Justice. Hope To See You Guys Soon Joe

One-year anniversary, if you can believe it. What a project. I'm glad that I did it, but I think that I'm even happier that I'm not doing it this winter!
Instead, the wife's got "a list of a few things" to do around the house........ |
less expensive...
|
One of those "To Do" things has wings on it right? I'm in!!!

Actually, we damn near lost the boat last weekend. Pulled into the Chesapeake Inn, and one engine wouldn't idle right. Opened the hatch to find out the the Schrader valve on the injection fuel rail was spewing gas e-v-e-r-y-w-h-e-r-e. The valve core had come loose, and the plastic cap wasn't man enough to hold back 50 psi. Got it cleaned up, and replaced the valve with a small gauge to get home. Phew. If the fumes had detonated......:hitfan: See the "Gas leak scare.." thread in General Discussions. Russ - Let me know if you have any problems finding the LED's you want. Are you going to the Annapolis show? We'll be there tomorrow. Just re-browsed this thread. What the f@ck was I thinking when I started this project???? :readinghelp: It was rewarding, but exhausting. Still, for a mere, say, $100,000 I could be persuaded do the same thing to anyone else's 382... |

so now! Your boat is ready for sale!!!!
The sale will include spare drives and other parts. |
This is a beautiful boat!
Good Luck with the sale! Whats next???? |
This is an incredibly nice boat and Chuck has spared no expense in keeping it that way. Someone is going to buy a wonderful example of Formula's finest.

I like all that Volvo power. Did you ever break a drive?
What kind of speeds do you see with this setup? |
I just read through this whole thread tonight. Thanks for keeping a record of what you have done and sharing it.
The way you approached the project shows a lot of planing with enough built in flexibility to make changes along the way. I have found some great ideas to use putting my resin bucket back together. I especially liked that point in time when you realized you were taking your ratchet out of the box and the switch was on clockwise instead of counter clockwise...putting things on instead of taking them off...I'm almost there. |

What kind of speeds do you see with this setup? I never broke a drive, but the pinion gear in the lowers starts to show some wear and heat after about 300 hours. I had such a great back-door deal through Volvo Penta that I simply replaced both drives in 2006 when one pinion pitted. That drive (which needs a lower gear set) and another operational drive are included with the boat as spares. Brand new and unloaded, we saw 78 mph. After we loaded all The Admiral's stuff into the boat, the usual top end was around 75. After we painted the bottom in 2005, it's been more like 73. Not the fastest thing out there, but it will run forever at 3900 rpm/52 mph. I HATE the though of selling it, but we want to move on to a deisel 400SS. If I could afford to keep the 382, I would. We won't give it away, but in the current market, it's hard to know what it will go for. I'd like to start off with an asking price in the $100k range. Any thoughts? |
I honestly think that $100K is a good starting point for an ask...but know you're probably going to need to deal with some "boat nut" or someone from OSO that appreciates what you have done.
I sincerely doubt that Formula themselves could have done a better job than you did on the re-furb of your 382. Understanding the network of folks that have seen your work...you might just get what you are asking. |

I think you price idea is in the realm of reason. I also think the Volvo power would sell much better than 575SCI. I have looked at a lot of boats in the past two years and if it has 575SCI it is off my list. Period! Those 540's are far superior to the 575 package in my book. As a Formula fan I can really appreciate your anal details with the boat and refurb job. That is huge for a sale. I guess I can appreciate that kind of scrupulous work because that is the way I am with all my vehicles and toys. Every thing you have done on the 382 appears to be in very good taste and fit. Great job by the way!!! If I get up that way I would like to see it. Good luck with the sale. |
Thanks for the input. I'm actually not looking forward to this. I'll list it in the Classifieds and a few local listings later this summer. Besides the factory equipment (genny, A/C, water heater, bimini top, camper canvas, cockpit cover and full cover), the boat will go with the following equipment:
